China's first flexible end-effector standard was released and implemented

01 Background of standard preparation
According to statistics, the global industry can only solve a small part of the automatic production and handling of regular rigid items, the rest of the majority of special-shaped and vulnerable items are still in the use of manual loading and unloading stage, flexible end-effector has effectively solved the industry pain point. Inspired by mollusks, the inflatable flexible finger independently developed by SRT can adaptively cover the target object during grasping operation without pre-adjusting the exact size and shape of the object, thus getting away from the bondage of the traditional production line requiring equal size of the object.
In recent years, the development of soft robot industry has achieved remarkable results and the industry scale has grown rapidly. In order to standardize the production and delivery standards of inflatable flexible fingers in the industry, this standard is specially prepared. This standard is written in strict accordance with the requirements of GB/T 1.1-2020 Standardization Work Guidelines Part 1: Standardization Document Structure and Drafting Rules.
02 Standard preparation process
The General Specification of Inflatable Flexible Finger for Grip gripper was officially approved in June 2022, which lasted for more than half a year. The expert group held several working meetings to repeatedly discuss the testing parameters, testing instruments, instrument requirements, test methods, etc., and the final standard was officially released on December 01, 2022. It will come into effect on December 02, 2022.

03 Significance of standard preparation
"General Specification of Inflatable and Soft Finger of Grasp-type Gripper" combined with the actual situation of industry, The necessary indexes of inflatable flexible fingers are specified, including the requirements of technology, test methods, inspection rules, packaging, transportation, storage, etc., and the quantifiable test method is proposed, which reflects the performance level of inflatable flexible fingers in the practical application process.
This standard is the first standard on inflatable flexible fingers in China, which provides important support for the orderly and benign development of the soft robot industry.
